Mr. Q. Cumber Watermelon Cooler
There are some flavor pairings that are just natural and as lovely in their aroma as they are in taste. Watermelon and cucumber are one of those and this cocktail displays that marriage made in heaven perfectly. Aviation, the gin used here, may be the only gin that could pull this cocktail off to such perfection. It is more of a floral and citrus gin, with juniper hanging out lightly in the background, and that is an ideal situation for the watermelon-cucumber combination.
Watermelon is one of the easiest fruit to juice, so it will not take long to get what you need for the drink. The easiest way is to simply muddle a few chunks and strain for the juice. Also, don't pass by that pinch of salt, it is essential and without it this drink would be like a Bloody Mary without the black pepper: slightly bland, but tolerable.
Prep Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 3 minutes
Yield: 1 Cocktail
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces Aviation American Gin
- 2 slices cucumber chunks
- 1 1/2 ounces freshly pressed watermelon juice (or muddle 3-1" chunks)
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- 3/4 oz freshly pressed lime juice
- Pinch salt
- 1 1/2 ounces Mr. Q. Cumber
- Cucumber slice for garnish
Preparation:
- Press watermelon to make juice (squeeze the watermelon in a juicer or muddle in a mixing glass). Strain and reserve 1 ½ ounces of the juice.
- Place cucumber in mixing glass and muddle.
- Add remaining ingredients through salt.
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Fine strain into a highball glass filled with ice.
- Top with Mr. Q. Cumber.
- Garnish with a cucumber slice on rim.

Mr. Q. Cumber meets Skinnygirl
Citrus meets cucumber in one of the most seductive new cocktails at Andrea’s.
BY KAREN ROSE | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALEX KARVOUNIS
The delicious new soda Mr. Q Cumber was working so well in the Cucumber Fresh cocktail at Andrea’s, Wynn master mixologist Patricia Richards decided to cross-utilize this fun and fizzy new ingredient. “I thought, Why not try cucumber with tangerine as a flavor profile combination?” says Richards. “This worked out wonderfully! Then I added the vibrant Solerno Blood Orange liqueur for a little extra pop, along with fresh lime juice.” The result? A refreshing, delicious cocktail guaranteed to put a little sparkle into your night.

DRINKING STARBUCKS, BUT CAN'T LOOSE THOSE EXTRA POUNDS?
Good News! Starbucks will be posting nutritional information on their in-store menu boards on June 25th.
You should know that obesity is epidemic among American adults and that fast food choices are high in calories, fat, carbohydrates, sugar and sodium. But knowing the nutritional values before you place your order can shed those extra pounds.
For Example, Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino Blended Creme´ (the 20-ounce “Venti” size) with whole milk and whipped cream has 520 calories, 23g of fat and 76g of carbs. Using a recommended daily calorie count of 2000 per day, This beverage would equate to about 26% of your recommended daily calories, just on a beverage! Not a very healthy choice.
However, knowing the nutritional values and being current with technology, you can make better choices! Before ordering, checkout the new menu boards, get online line via Starbucks.com or through Starbucks Mobile App for iPhone and use the interactive nutritional interface that will inform you of the healthier choice.
For instance, If you go online via Starbucks.com and select Menu and then Drink Nutrition, you will get an interactive selection menu. I'm able to build my Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino Blended Creme´ to meet my specific nutritional needs, whether it's size, type of milk or with or without whip cream. In this case, choosing to use nonfat milk would lower the calories from 520 to 350 and drop the fat from 23g to 5g. Awesome!
Shed those extra pounds by getting interactive and making informed healthy choices.
